The movie is based upon a true story, and apparently approximately 85 percent of all cocaine sold in the United States in the 70s and early 80s came from Jung’s smuggling operation. Escobar and the Colombian drug cartel would use Jung’s services as a drug smuggler to get his cocaine into the United States. The story is about George Jung, an American who became Pablo Escobar’s United States connection. Ultimately, the movie is about the adventures of youth and drugs in New York, and it’s quite a good show!īlow stars Johnny Depp, though Penelope Cruz is present in a lot of the film too (and plays quite the cocaine-fiend herself no doubt). Unfortunately for Tony Montana, his drug use becomes a massive problem, but the adventure within Scarface has earned the movie the second spot on the “best movies about drugs.” He murders a lot of people, deals with the Colombian drug cartel and the cops, and uses a lot of cocaine. Montana then creates a drug empire based in Miami, eventually controlling all cocaine trade in the state. Pacino plays Tony Montana, the dude who assassinates a Cuban official in exchange for entry to the United States. Although there are some drastic differences between the book and the movie, the movie absolutely remains entertaining and the characters are truly believable….who knows, maybe they really were on drugs during filming!Īl Pacino’s performance in Scarface almost won this movie the best movie about drugs of all time. This movie was supposed to be a depiction of real life Hunter S Thompson’s experiences and it was based upon the journals of his adventures.
